The Endoscopy Center at Medical Park has 26 beds for pre-operative/post-operative care. There are 7 procedure rooms and 1 procedure room in the main hospital OR. The patients cared for are mainly outpatient procedures, but ASA I, II, & III can be done in the Endoscopy Center. Patients that are greater than ASA III are done in the OR and the majority of inpatients are done in the OR. Pre-op nurses are a 1:1 ratio. Post-op nurses are usually a 1:3 ratio. Procedure room has 1 RN & 1Tech. Majority of cases will have a CRNA in addition to an RN. The RN is responsible for the patient during the pre-, intra-, and post procedure phases. The RN obtains history from the patient, sedates the patients, assists the physician during the procedure and recovers the patients. The RN works with all team members in an effort to promote excellence in patient care, physician and patient satisfaction and in support of the health system's mission.
Performs nursing assessment of patient's cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory and GI systems, as well as skin condition, response to pain, and medication history & reconciliation; acts on abnormal findings.
Performance of assigned duties including electronic documentation, cardiac monitoring, IV starts/restarts; oxygen and GI procedures; foley catheter insertion, ng tubes, etc.
Patient teaching including pre-op & discharge planning.
Evaluation of patient's condition during pre-op, intraoperative and post-op.
