The Medical Director of Operative and Invasive Services has the responsibility and authority to provide clinical leadership throughout all operative and invasive service areas for the provision of safe, quality, efficient, and fiscally responsible care for all operative/invasive patients. Scope: the Medical Director scope of clinical leadership includes oversight and direction of the clinical policies, procedures and function in the following areas:
1. Pre-Admission Testing 2. Same Day Surgery 3. Operating Rooms 4. Endoscopy Suite 5. Other out of OR locations as necessary (i.e – EP lab, Radiology) 6. PACU
Duties & Responsibilities: The Medical Director Duties and responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the oversight and direction of the following:
1. Policy & procedure review, development & implementation 2. Pre-Operative/Invasive screening and evaluation 3.Patient flow/Throughput 4. Operative/Invasive case Scheduling 5. Clinical resource utilization, i.e., space, staff, equipment and supplies 6. Daily operative/Invasive schedule management, i.e.: “OR White Board” 7. Postoperative care 8. Clinical quality/Performance improvements initiatives 9. Operative/Invasive data management and utilization 10. Clinical staff development 11. Act as an interface between the anesthesia department and stakeholders including: a. OR director b. Chair of Surgery c. Nursing director d. Patients e. Hospital administration f. Somnia Corporate Office
Supervisory: The Medical Director reports administratively to the CMO at Somnia and has direct supervisory responsibility for the following staff:
1. Practice Administrator: scheduling, vacation request, reporting, Q&A, various other responsibilities outlined by Administrative Chief’s at headquarters 2. Any sectional chiefs within the department 3. Staff anesthesiologists 4. Staff CRNAs 5. Chief CRNA 6. Anesthesia technicians (when applicable)
Committees: The Medical Director leads and/or serves on various hospital committees as is appropriately and reasonably requested and/or appointment by the VPMA.
The Medical Director is the Chair of Anesthesiology and will be Board Certified in Anesthesiology with a minimum of 5 years commendable practice experience as an attending Anesthesiologist: preferably with a minimum of 2 years in a clinical leadership position. Experience commensurate with the preferred qualifications will be considered.
