The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) invites inquires and nominations for the next Medical Director of its 20-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The successful candidate will be based in one of the nation's largest, top-ranked departments of Anesthesiology and will have a proven track record as a strategic and outstanding clinician and administrator and will be well-versed in best practices. The next Medical Director will have the ability to lead a growing CVICU to advance and support excellence in the delivery of clinical services, education, and multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary research.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an exceptionally accomplished, fellowship-trained, ABA-certified, group of nine critical care-certified faculty, two fellows, seven advanced practice providers (APP), and three APP interns dedicated to providing cutting-edge, compassionate care of the highest quality and safety to patients in Southeast Wisconsin. The high acuity surgical cases at the Department's affiliates have nurtured a culture of close collaborations between faculty and specialty physicians. On the research front, the Department's large biomedical research division has several diverse ongoing studies ranging from the level of the single ion channel up to human clinical research. The state-of-the-art teaching techniques such as simulation provide an attractive choice for fellows and residents.
The Comprehensive Heart Failure and Transplant Program at Froedtert Hospital, MCW's clinical partner, offers innovative transplant options including implantable devices. The Froedtert team works closely with the CVICU staff to ensure excellent outcomes and success for over 2,000 patients annually. The Medical Director of CVICU must work effectively in collaboration with other clinicians, service line directors, Froedtert Hospital/Medical College Physicians (MCP) and MCP Departmental Patient Safety and Quality Officers to achieve institutional goals. This individual will report to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, the Vice Chair of Clinical Services within the Department of Anesthesiology and to the Chief Medical Officer of Froedtert Hospital. The successful candidate must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Wisconsin, be certified by one of the ABMS Boards in Critical Care, and have at least six years of experience in an academic medicine setting.
